Sandvik Additive Manufacturing at SECO'S ITI aerospace virtual event.
October 7-8, Sandvik Additive Manufacturing, Seco Tools and partners join forces at Seco's annual ‘Inspiration Through Innovation’ advanced manufacturing virtual event, tailor-made for customers in the aerospace industry.
Demonstration: Additive and Subtractive manufacture of a titanium blisk for aerospace
Date and time
Wednesday, 7th October: 11:15 - 11:55 CET
Titanium is difficult, expensive and time-consuming to machine, especially when the quality requirements are tough. This demonstration shows that with a combined additive and subtractive approach to blisk manufacture for aerospace, you can achieve a significant reduction in the amount of material required – without compromising on surface integrity. The titanium blisk was first 3D printed to near-net-shape by Sandvik Additive Manufacturing. Next, it was machined with custom Seco tooling, barrel milling and indexable milling strategies to produce a constant and accurate surface finish. By machining a near-net-shape component instead of traditionally forged design, the machining time could be reduced by as much as 70%. Several advantages for the aerospace industry!
Sandvik Additive Manufacturing has leading expertise across the entire AM-value chain and offers the widest range of alloys for additive manufacturing on the market. The blisk was 3D-printed in Osprey® titanium powder by Sandvik, which is certified according to AS9100D for the aerospace industry.
