NACE Corrosion 2021

Sandvik will participate at NACE Corrosion 2021. Taking place between April 19-30, the “Ultimate Virtual Experience” is the world’s largest conference and exposition that aims to unite different corrosion industries across the globe.

Sandvik has been driving the materials evolution for duplex steels for decades, continuously launching new alloys with improved performance and properties. Super-duplex stainless steels – or SDSS – are known for their excellent corrosion and mechanical properties and are, as a result, widely used in corrosive environments such as offshore applications.

Sandvik has participated in the Vinnova funded AMCO project, coordinated by Swerim, alongside Alfa Laval, Quintus Technologies and Jernkontoret – to increase the understanding of corrosion mechanisms and the corrosion properties of additively manufactured components in various environments. The knowledge gained throughout the project will be used to develop guidelines to measure corrosion resistance of AM materials, in order to support end-users in their choices to introduce AM stainless steel products.

Nikhil Dixit, Application Engineer at Sandvik Additive Manufacturing, will participate at Corrosion 2021, presenting the results of the AMCO project on April 30 at 16.30/4.30 PM CET.

“I am very excited to finally unveil the results of our joint labor at NACE. Sandvik’s Osprey® 2507 metal powder is produced in-house by the VIGA process, and was consolidated via laser-powder bed fusion (LBPF) processing. Subsequent heat treatments were then performed, using either conventional heat treatment or hot isostatic pressing (HIP), with different cooling rates. The results show that additively manufactured SDSS has excellent potential to be used in offshore applications – where I believe it can be truly game changing”, Dixit comments.
